Welcome! I'm Karen.I'm a Front End Web Developer from Maryland. I like clean, simple, semantic code, innovative and unique design. I always have had a passion for creativity and for design. I am pursuing double major at Montgomery College in Education Field and Data Analytics.

I enjoy taking complex problems and turning them into simple. I am hoping to expand and deepen my knowledge as a front-end web developer and eventually build up the skill set to become a full-stack developer.

In addition to my interest in forging a career as a Front End Web Developer I have aquaried a variety of skills through my education and work history over the years. I'm photographer, teacher assistant an experienced Human Resources Analyst.

  • Understand the foundational languages of web development
  • Build a functional website using only HTML5 and CSS3
  • Learn more advanced CSS styling techniques including animations

JavaScript/jQuery

  • Understand the functionality of programming languages
  • Write basic applications using JavaScript
  • Understand how JavaScript libraries like jQuery make programming easier

XML/JSON/AJAX

  • Understand the basic applications of asynchronous programming
  • Learn about nested arrays and objects
  • Write code using these three technologies that work with JavaScript to streamline web development

Responsive Web Design

  • Understand how media queries work to make websites responsive on a variety of devices
  • Write media queries using basic CSS
  • Learn to use responsive frameworks like W3.CSS and Bootstrap

HTML5

I learned that HTML5 is the latest revision of the Hypertext Markup Language, the code used to create web pages. HTML5 is designed to be independent of any browser or device. It includes new features like video playback, drag-and-drop, as well as enhancements to existing features like forms and tables.

CSS3

I learned how to use CSS 3 to simplify the visual design. CSS 3 lets you control the look and feel of every element on a web page without having to use images or JavaScript. For example, you can now use gradients, shadows, and rounded corners without having to create separate images or files.

I learned about XML and how it can be used to structure data. I learned about how similar it is to HTML with regards to structure and also how different it is. Mainly how I can define my nodes and child nodes.

JSON

I learned about the structure of JSON files which was pretty easy after learning about XML. I created my own JSON file based on the XML file. I learned about Object calls and Array calls using JSON.

AJAX

AJAX is a type of JavaScript that allows you to update parts of a page without having to reload the whole thing. All modern web browsers support AJAX in some form or another, so web pages can be much more responsive.
